AXA is currently seeking a Database Administrator/Engineer to join their Digital Solutions Group!

This person will have a unique opportunity to provide scope, development, testing and support for databases within the Operations area of AXA and work heavily with Big Data sets: ensuring these are readily available for operational reporting and upcoming web development projects for the group.



  • Work with business users to understand their needs and successfully communicate the challenges along with the solutions to senior and executive management in plain terms
  • Design, develop and support custom database applications including working on developing stored procedures, conducting data modeling, database optimization, and going through the process with developers to enhance and modify databases to satisfy new client requirements
  • Daily maintenance of database infrastructure, mainly checking daily / nightly scheduler jobs, backup/recovery and replication etc.
  • Proactively monitor and troubleshoot problems escalated by the business teams in a timely manner
  • Plan, coordinate, implement and maintain server/database/user security measure (access rights, permissions, etc.)
  • Perform space management (tablespace and rollback segment), archiving, partitioning and compression techniques for performance and manageability
  • Able to work with a wide array of data sources, where fields and values often require translation through extensive Research

    Basic Requirements:
    • Bachelor or master’s degree in Computer Science or 10 years’ equivalent work experience
    • 5 years’ experience in SQL, specifically with the use of sub-queries, tables, indexes, aggregate functions, Joins and procedures

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to research in depth is a must
    • Fluent in database software. Experience using the Navicat software a plus
    • Microsoft Azure environment experience a plus
    • Experience using Federated Services within MariaDB
    • Strong background with ETL jobs from various data sources
    • Willing and available to be on-call nights and weekends as needed
    • Work collaboratively with a team of engineers
    • Insurance industry background or a willingness to learn is ideal
